The island of Santa Maria is characteristic because it is the only one of the smaller islands of the Archipelago to be inhabited, its name is reminiscent of a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, attached to a destroyed monastery, mentioned in a medieval document and still visible and present in an island home.
The Santa Maria Beach extends over a wide bay where there is a sandy space of about 200 meters, one of the longest in the archipelago.
The beautiful bay is framed by pink rocks with lush vegetation, where a series of small houses were built.
The strong point of the island of Santa Maria is the sea: a stretch of water with a thousand shades of blue, with a bottom that gradually increases its depth starting from the shore and forming a natural pool of great beauty.
In the sea there is a body of water known as the "Palude", a stretch of brackish water where there are particular species of water birds such as coots, mallards, moorhens and "Cavalieri d'Italia".
